The City of Bellaire is located in southeast Texas and has a population of just over 17,000 residents. Bellaire was founded in 1908 on what was part of a 95-hundred acre ranch, as a residential neighborhood and agricultural trading center. Today, the streets are lined with large oaks and custom built homes. Bellaire is located minutes southwest of Houston from the city’s downtown and the Galleria. Bellaire is served by the Houston Independent School District. The schools have a reputation of excellence in both education and extracurricular offerings Bellaire offers a magnet school for foreign languages along with the International Baccalaureate Program and is well known for consistently graduating the highest number of National Merit Finalists in the country. They’re also proud of their legacy for producing championship baseball teams. If you’re interested in giving your child a private education, there are several options available to you. If it’s a degree that you’re after, there are seven colleges and universities all within a ten mile drive! Offerings include Rice University, Texas Southern University, Houston Baptist University, Baylor College of Medicine, the University of Houston, and the Houston Community College System. Several large businesses such as Chevron, ATT, CenterPoint Energy and the Foundation Surgical Hospital reside in Bellaire. The city has a large number of retail and professional businesses to service the community.
The 6,000 homes in the city are a mix of 1950’s and 1960’s ranch homes and brand new mansions ranging in price from $200,000 to well over $1 million. Bellaire has no “off season” for fun, indoors or outdoors! We have 14 parks featuring many amenities and plenty of green space for enjoying a picnic with family and friends, or relaxing with a good book. We even have a dog park where pampered pooches can run and play.
The Bellaire Town Square Family Aquatic Center provides plenty of fun for the whole family, with a 14-foot dive well, lap lanes, splash pad, and a waterslide. Our Recreation Center features a fitness room and a variety of programs for all ages from ballroom dancing for adults to sign language for babies. During the summer, Camp Paseo offers team and individual sports for children ages 5 through 12. Bellaire is known for baseball. Its Little League team won the U.S National Championship at the 2000 Little League World Series. The city is also home to the Hana and Arthur Ginzbarg Nature Discovery Center.
When the historic Teas Nursery closed in December 2009, The Jerry and Maury Rubenstein Foundation seized the opportunity to save a piece of Bellaire and Houston history by acquiring the 5 acre site with the vision of maintaining a green space in the heart of the big city. The land was donated to the City of Bellaire on the condition that it would be developed as a park; a beautiful, safe and quiet respite for it’s surrounding communities. Helpgreen space.
The park is named for the Rubenstein’s mother, someone who valued nature, community and family above all else. Evelyn’s Park is about honoring the past, when people walked or biked to the park and kicked a ball or had a picnic.
